CUSTOM HARDWARE AND PERSONAL DEVICES

Devices which gather information about ourselves and our hyper-local environments are crucial in understanding and humanizing our diverse experiences.

As such, I've been endlessly fascinated with developing custom hardware. My experience spans concept, design, fabrication and production management of personal devices with particular attention to technical feasibility and budget / timeline constraints. Executions include both commercial client projects and artwork exhibited internationally.

NETWORKED DEVICES

Artist / Technologist Ayo Okunseinde and I created Little Juju--a functional system of wirelessly networked devices outfitted with a suite of sensors and sensorial outputs which connect you with your community anywhere around the world.

Each device can send and receive light signals to their network, reinforcing a sense of community through a "call and response" behavior which is amplified with each response. Robust and responsive, their functionality organically evolves with their community. In heightened police and surveillance states, the devices are also envisioned as communication devices for protest movements which broadcast environmental conditions and encrypted signals across the network.

INDOOR RFID TRACKING

I led the concepting and technical development of personal devices which tracked guests indoors throughout an event space for a year-long ticketed experience in NYC.

Indoor tracking has long been a holy grail in the event space, and we were able to crack the code with high powered RFID antennae and passive tags connected to custom electronics all within a sculptural device that fit in visitors' hands. As they navigated the space, their pulse and emotional state would directly impact their surroundings, creating an evocative feedback loop between guests and their dynamic environment.
